Anniversary getaway

Apart from our honeymoon, Shayne and I haven’t had much time to ourselves since we got married, usually because of one of us working away. We also like to involve Harrison in movie nights, going out to dinner and concerts where possible so he doesn’t feel left out.

In January 2019 while I was home on leave from Darwin we actually decided to organise something. I mentioned to Shayne I was going to look for somewhere for us to spend a couple of nights and asked her if there were any special requirements she would like? Her response.

I want somewhere with a spa bath overlooking a beach.

Well I spent hours and hours searching the internet but couldn’t find anywhere matching her requirements. Even the ones I did find where pretty crappy looking hotel spa bath/ shower places.

There I was, I finally had an opportunity to do something romantic for my wife for our anniversary and I was getting stuck just finding a nice place.

We already had a babysitter sorted because my mum had been staying with us for a few weeks, so all we had to do was find somewhere and go.

Eventually I started looking elsewhere other than beach side places and I came across this place.

Chandeliers On Abbey

Located 248 kilometers south of Perth in Western Australia, just past Busselton and 30 minutes drive from Margaret River. It is a beautiful getaway place, where they have several self contained chalets surrounded by lots of wilderness.

They also have a fantastic area to cater for weddings if you know of anyone who might be looking for somewhere nice to get married.

I was looking at the prices and initially thought it was a little more than I wanted to spend but bugger it, why not? So I booked us in for two nights. I told Shayne I had booked somewhere, that it had a spa, and I wasn’t going to tell her where it was.

When the time came to head down there, we packed the car then had to deal with a very upset and distraught Harrison because he couldn’t understand why we were going on a holiday without him. We even heard him yelling out from the side of the house.

Why can’t I go on a holiday, I never get to go on a holiday

We promised him his holiday was coming because we were all going to the Gold Coast at the end of the year for Christmas with Shayne’s family.

We drove off, and left Harrison behind to get lots of cuddles from Gran.

Nearly two hours later we arrived at Chandeliers On Abbey and fell in love with the area. It was nice and secluded and the chalets were that far apart we knew there were not going to be any privacy issues.

It was a home away from home.

If you are interested in Wineries there are plenty to go and check out but we just wanted to have a relaxing few days enjoying each others company.

We organised a couples Swedish Massage package for the next day from Massage Southwest. In the meantime we relaxed in the spa, listened to music, sat in the balcony rocking chairs and just relaxed in the peace and quiet.

A wonderful lady arrived the next day with her massage table, soothing music, and took it in turns to give Shayne and I massages. It was the perfect way to end an already relaxing day.

During our stay we cooked our own meals but if you have the money you can get your own personal chef to come in and cook for you.

We had a wonderful two night stay. We highly recommend them if you are looking to get away for a couple of nights.

It might even be perfect for a Valentines Day getaway.
